Jane Austin meets Janet Evanovich in which an American woman's sass head-butts an unassuming and stuffy Englishman. When thirty-four year old Max moves to London she bumps up, plows through and unknowingly demeans her prestigious forty-year old English boss. Through old and new friends she ekes out some semblance of a working relationship with the man and comes to her own in the city that inspired all of her favorite books. Max’s story intertwines within her mentor’s past Robert is a 60ish Englishman who worked with Max in Boston and took it upon himself to teach and guide this peculiar woman who reminds him so much of a past lover he lost years and years ago. As Max gains footing she finds that Robert's past has come back to haunt her. If one believes in reincarnation could Max be the capsule of Lashi's soul? If Robert couldn't protect Lashi during the Nepal Student Riots of 1979, can he protect Max now?

I appreciated the flow of the different story lines weaving in and out of each other- it kept it interesting and eclectic. The characters from the past effectively set up the characters in the present. Even the minor characters had quirks and wit that kept the dialogue fun and engaging. I can't decide if I want to read a prequel of Robert or a sequel with Clark. Both heroines (Lashi and Max) will make you think and laugh out loud.Product details

The Max Effect edition by Megan A Steyskal Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This easy to read book kept me interested but at the same time challenged my vocabulary skills. I liked that aspect of the book. I learned new things, traveled vicariously to new places and had fun doing it. Hopefully Megan will introduce us to more characters in different cities.
Fun read, with interesting characters that develop as you read along!
Witty and heartwarming. Max is quirky and relatable and the story is fun but meaningful too. Love it and look forward to more from Megan.
I couldn't put this book down! The main character wasn't annoying and the conversations between her and the boss are well written. She's strong, quirky, and all around the kind of girl you'd want as your friend. The other characters perfectly support and aren't over done. I hope more stories in this line come available! Can't wait to read more!
